New Fair Trade Stock!

Some exciting new Fair Trade stock has just arrived at our Bayswater shop from our supplier Siham Craftlink. It includes some beautiful shawls, children's hairbands and mobiles as well as some very cute leather money boxes, toy penguins and animal puppets. Siham Craftlink is also donating 10% of the order's value to the Queensland flood appeal.

Penguins made from jute.
These adorable penguins are made by CORR-The Jute Works (CJW) program run by Caritas in Bangladesh. The label attached reads:
CJW steadfastly works to empower the down-trodden rural women artisans all across Bangladesh by providing them with earning opportunity through Trade Justice thus to live a life of dignity. CJW is committed to promote the concept and vision of Fair Trade.
These penguins are being sold for $8.00.

Modelled by one of our Group members.

Next we have a beautiful handmade shawl made by the women artisans of Hajiganj Handicrafts a Fair Trade handicrafts organisation in Northern Bangladesh that is 'creating bridges from rural artisans to you.'

We are selling these shawls for $12.00 each.

And finally we have some beautiful handmade Fair Trade leather money boxes from Artisan's Effort in Kolkata, India which employs 45 men. From the tag:
Many of these men employed by Artisan's Effort were previously exploited and treated badly in the trade system. They are now respected, have dignity and receive a fair wage. For all of these artisans and their families it is their lifeline and escape from poverty ... Artisan's Effort is also committed to paying for the education costs of nine needy children in Asansol (West Bengal) and in the local Howrah area.
These are being sold for $8.50.
