International Mother Earth Day is
celebrated to remind each of us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us
with life and sustenance.
It also recognizes a collective responsibility as called for in the 1992 Rio
Declaration, to promote with nature and Earth to achieve a just balance among
the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations
of humanity.
For many, climate change seems like a remote problem, but the reality is that
it’s already affecting people, animals and places around the world. A change
needs to be made. On April 22 we are harnessing the power of Earth Day to show
our communities and our leadership that we want action on climate. It’s our
turn to lead.
One way of making a change is through supporting
enterprises which recycle everyday products, advocating for the sustainable use
of Earth’s resources. Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts collects waste
materials and works to incorporate the recycled goods into their
products. The recycled paper bowls and placemats from Mai’s product range
are perfect examples of some of the eye-catching and practical artisan’s products,
which you can come and see in the
Fair Trade WA Oxfam
Shop in Bayswater.
