Fairtrade Fiesta Success

Hi All,

This update is a bit belated, so I'll make it quick.

The Fairtrade Fiesta on the 9th was a big success for the Fairtrade Group. We had a stall next to the Oxfam shop, and there were around 20 different stalls in total. Some were selling Fairtrade goods, or had information, others had food (including a FT chocolate fountain provided by Murdoch Students Without Borders), coffee, and information about other social justice causes.

It was a great day, with people from all walks of life swinging through, enjoying the beautiful day and the market style atmosphere. It all culminated with Junkadelic and the Big Bang, with a chorus of home-made drums banging away for Fairtrade.

And so it was a big success for us - overall it raised $288.95, and it gave us a very valuable opportunity to network with Fairtrade suppliers and retailers. It was also a great training experience for some new volunteers. All in all, a very worthwile event for us to be involved in over the coming years.

The Fairtrade collective did a great job organising the event, and a lot of credit has to go to them. It was a great way to send off the Fairtrade Fortnight for 2009!

Cheers

Tim (i'll make it to a meeting soon!)
