Fairtrade Collective Update

Hi everyone!

It's Tim McMinn here - I'm one of the newer members of the group and I am going to be giving you all regular updates on the WA Fairtrade Collective. At the moment, with the Fairtrade Fortnight coming up, they have a lot planned and it will be great for our group to be part of it.

The collective have organised three main events organised for the Fairtrade Fortnight, which will run from the 2nd of May:

1. KURB Gallery Exhibition: This is an exhibition of work by local artists with the theme being Fairtrade. It will be running from the 3rd to the 7th of May, with the opening night on the 3rd featuring a Fairtrade Chocolate Cake auction (I'm told that this has been delicious in previous years).

2. Fairtrade Fiesta: This event will be held on the 9th of May from 10am to 3pm. Held at city farm, it will be a market style event with stalls, entertainment, food, coffee, a (fairtrade) chocolate fondue fountain, and activities for the kids. The culmination of the event is going to be the Big Bang. This event will be rolling around the world on May the 9th as people all over the globe bang drums in support of Fairtrade. One of the day's big activities will be drum making. We will be having a stall there, with Fairtrade goods and Oxfam campaign information.

The day will be a big fundraiser for a project in the Solomon Islands. The money will be going to buy a water tank for a nurses post.

3. Finally, on May 15th, there will be a wind up party at the Oxfam shop in Perth. There will be lots of musicians featured, and it should be good time for everyone!

I'll keep you updated with any other plans that come up.

Cheers

Tim
